Rachel Carlson
Rachel Carlson performs as soprano soloist and conductor in the Washington, DC area. She acts as administrator of the Maryland Boy Choir, performs solo/ one-on-a-part ensemble work as a church musician with the St. Paul Rock Creek Parish, and performs with Chantry, the Washington Revels and Revels Singers, and the Santa Fe Desert Chorale.
The 2006-2007 season included soloist work with the Festival Choir of Madison, touring and premiering works with the UW-Madison Concert Choir and University of Maryland Chamber Singers and soloing and conducting as a church musician. Rachel has founded several small vocal ensembles, most notably "The Fourth Inversion," and spent two years conducting the UW-Madison Masters Singers.
No stranger to the stage, Rachel has performed in numerous operas and musicals with the University of Maryland Opera Studio and Theater Department, Catholic University Summer Opera Theatre Company, and Sandy Spring Theater Group. Operas include Dido & Aenaes (Second Woman), Suor Angelica (Suor Dolcina), La Bohème, and Otello and musicals include Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies, Guys & Dolls (Sarah Brown), and Sweeney Todd (Johanna).
Rachel holds a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Maryland and a Master's degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is currently completing her certification in Music Education at the University of Maryland. She recently completed a tour of England and Wales with the University of Maryland Chamber Singers, where they competed in the Llangollen International Music Festival and won second place in the Mixed Choir division.
